Temporary Authorization to Fly

For pilots planning temporary operations in a new country, the validation of a foreign pilot license provides the necessary legal authorization without requiring a full conversion. This process allows you to exercise the privileges of your existing license, issued by another civil aviation authority, within the jurisdiction of the validating country. Typically, validation involves submitting your current license and medical certificate, along with proof of citizenship and a formal application. Depending on the type of license (e.g., private vs. commercial) and the bilateral agreements between the countries, a familiarization flight or a check ride with a local examiner might be required to ensure proficiency with local airspace rules and procedures. Validation is an excellent option for short-term stays, ferrying aircraft, or specific non-commercial activities. It offers a quicker and less extensive path compared to a full license conversion, enabling you to fly legally and safely while respecting international aviation agreements.
