FI(A) – Flight Instructor (Aeroplanes) is intended for individuals interested in working as a flight instructor. An FI(A) flight instructor can be any pilot holding a Private Pilot Licence (PPL) or Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) for aeroplanes, provided they have the appropriate flight experience and theoretical knowledge for the respective types of pilot training. This includes instruction for private pilot training, instrument flying, night flying, and even commercial pilot instruction. Upon successful completion of the training, the candidate obtains the FI(A) – Flight Instructor (Aeroplanes) qualification, with authorization to conduct PPL(A) and LAPL(A) training.
Requirements
- Age: 18+
- License: CPL(A) or PPL(A) with CPL theory certificate
- Total flight time: minimum 200 hours, of which 150 hours as PIC and 10 hours of instrument flight time.
- Credits for previous experience: Holders of an instructor license for another type of aircraft (e.g., helicopter) may count 25 hours of theoretical instruction towards the requirement for teaching methodology and instructional techniques.
- Knowledge of English at a minimum level of B1 according to the international CEFR standard – intermediate level. The entry flight test must be taken no more than 6 months before the start of the course.
- Class 1 Medical Certificate
Career
Graduates of FI(A) – Flight Instructor (Aeroplanes) can start their aviation career already holding a Private Pilot Licence (PPL(A)). As a flight instructor, you will gain the required flight experience for further professional pilot training while earning money during your studies.

Flight Training :
Total flight training hours : 30 hours
including time with an instructor: min. 25 hours
including dual flights: min. 5 hours
Theory instruction:
Total theoretical training hours: 125 hours*
Including 25 hours of methodology and instructional techniques ( 5 of which are consultations with an instructor)*
Including 100 hours of technical theoretical knowledge ( 15 of which are consultations with an instructor)
*Holders of an instructor license for another type of aircraft (e.g., helicopter) may count 25 hours of theoretical instruction towards the requirement for teaching methodology and instructional techniques.
Price
The price you will have to pay to learn to fly and obtain a pilot’s license varies from person to person and depends on many factors. The price should not be the main factor in deciding where to get your pilot’s license. When it comes to flight training, cheap is rarely good.

Your goals in flying have a significant impact on how your overall flight training will be conducted. If you want to fly only recreationally, training in an aircraft with lighter avionics will be significantly cheaper than compared to a businessman or future professional pilot.
The price of pilot training for individual pilot licenses is set in connection with the number of flight hours in the curriculum, the time of ground preparations, and theoretical instruction in the classroom. Further, it is necessary to count additional expenses for landing and other airport fees and fees for exams at authorities and payments for obtaining necessary permits for training.
